On 20 November 2025, President Cyril Ramaphosa officially declared Gender-Based Violence and Femicide a National Disaster, marking one of the most significant advocacy victories ever achieved for women and children in South Africa. The petition surpassed one million signatures, ignited a global Purple Movement, and culminated in the historic G20 Women’s Shutdown on 21 November 2025 – a defining moment in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide. Thousands of survivors have found the courage to break their silence through WFC’s platforms, receiving guidance, validation, and access to critical legal and medical referral pathways.
